In Sept. 2014, ISIS overran, Kobani, a Syrian-Kurdish town abutting Turkey’s southeast . Hundreds of thousands of civilians fled across the border into Sanliurfa province. Over the subsequent weeks and months, Kurdish forces, with the support of western nations, laid siege to the town as its residents looked on from just across the border.
